The medicine's next stop
# Know who fills the order.
Ask for the dispensing pharmacy's full name. If the medicine is made to order, also ask who makes it. Then take those names to the pharmacy board's records.
As of September 2026.
A few words, made clear
Medicine review is part of the federal Food and Drug Administration's work; FDA is its short name. Dispensing means filling a medicine order. Sterile means free of living germs. Compounding prepares a medicine by making or mixing it for the needs of a patient.

## Look up the actual pharmacy
The Texas State Board of Pharmacy has free searches that cover pharmacists and pharmacies, including those outside the state with a Texas licence.
FDA notes that people ordering compounded medicine online may not know which compounder made it.
Match the name given by the service with the name in the board's record. Ask about any difference rather than filling in the gap yourself.

## An out-of-state licence is not the whole check
As of September 2026.
Before an out-of-state pharmacy mails prescription medicines to Texans, it generally needs a Texas licence.
Texas calls this a Class E licence for a pharmacy based outside Texas. The board can make an exception for a pharmacy sending only occasional prescriptions into Texas. The law calls these isolated transactions.
One order for you does not by itself show that the pharmacy qualifies for the exception. Ask the pharmacy board to confirm any claimed exception, or check the Texas licence.

## Sterile compounding needs another check
As of September 2026.
A pharmacy outside Texas that makes sterile compounded medicines needs a Texas Class E-S licence and an inspection for licensing and renewal.
Texas may accept a comparable inspection from the pharmacy's home state.
If an injection is proposed, ask which licence and inspection apply. Ask the board to clarify anything the public record does not explain.

## A seal cannot replace the record
Accreditation is a separate check by a private organisation. The PCAB compounding-pharmacy seal comes from ACHC, the Accreditation Commission for Health Care. It checks how medicines are made against national quality standards, rather than testing each batch. This check does not replace a state licence.
FDA registration means the business has put its details on an FDA list. As of September 2026, an FDA listing does not mean the agency has approved either the place or its medicines.
Ask what each badge actually covers, then return to the state record and the exact medicine.
