## Use the medical board search
Physician assistants are health professionals who treat patients with supervision from a doctor.
The Texas Medical Board's free lookup covers doctors and physician assistants and shows applicable public board actions.
Physician assistants have a separate Texas board, but their licence search is in the same place as the doctor's search.
Match the full name and licence number with what the service gives you. If the result is unclear, ask the board about that record.

## For a nurse with added training
A nurse practitioner has extra training as a nurse to assess patients and plan their treatment.
The Texas Board of Nursing issues licences to nurses, including nurse practitioners, and provides a free search for checking those licences.
As of September 2026, a Texas nurse practitioner needs a signed agreement with a supervising doctor to prescribe under that doctor's authority.
Ask the clinician to explain their prescribing role and the doctor involved in that agreement. There is no need to guess from a job title.
