When the question cannot wait
# Know when to get help.
Keep the clinician's follow-up instructions and the pharmacy's product information together. Ask how to get help with a problem, not just how to start the plan.
As of September 2026.
A few words, made clear
Medicine review is part of the federal Food and Drug Administration's work; FDA is its short name. A side effect is an unwanted response to a medicine. An adverse-event report records an unwanted experience; it does not prove what caused it.

## A severe allergic reaction is urgent
MedlinePlus says a severe allergic reaction can threaten life and may start within seconds or minutes.
Severe signs can include difficulty breathing or swallowing, a swollen face or tongue, or becoming unconscious.
MedlinePlus advises calling 911 or seeking care at the nearest emergency room when severe signs of this reaction appear.
These signs call for urgent help; they are not a way to diagnose a reaction from this page.

## Do not guess through a measurement question
As of September 2026.
FDA has been told about problems that may relate to measuring made-to-order semaglutide shots. Semaglutide is an ingredient in diabetes and weight-loss medicines. Some reports involved hospital care.
Compounded means made or mixed to order. Put any unclear label or measurement question to the dispensing pharmacist and prescriber before proceeding.

## Storage belongs to the exact product
Peptide medicines do not all share a storage rule: some need cold storage, while others are kept at room temperature.
Discuss storage using the instructions from the pharmacy and the label on your product; one storage rule cannot fit every peptide.
GLP-1 medicines mimic a hormone's effects on blood sugar and appetite control. Ask the pharmacy about the product and the delivery condition.
For GLP-1 shots that arrive warm or without enough refrigeration, FDA recommends leaving them unused because their quality may be affected.

## Report a medicine problem
Patients can report medicine problems to FDA through MedWatch, its medical-product reporting service.
FDA cautions that sending a report, by itself, does not show the medicine was the cause of the problem.
Keep the medicine name and any relevant messages for the conversation with your clinician. The official reporting tool is available below.
